Broadford School 1125
Grades 3 & 4 - 1920

This photo shows the gateway that in 2008 leads out to the school crossing over Gavan Street. The original brick building and wooden verandah is to the left and on the right is the old Bristol building. (Infant room and parent club room). In the foreground can be seen the tree canopy that once occupied this area.

This photo was taken in 1994. This view of Broadford Primary School was taken from the corner of Gavan and Powlett Streets looking into the school ground.

This building was moved from the Ringwood area in 1994. The shell was moved to Broadford in 1994. Anyone who was at Broadford Primary School that year will never forget a Monday morning assembly. Prior to the black plastic being put around the building it was covered in a straw-like material. On this particular morning, a rather intelligent prep child proclaimed that the school now had a "chook house" and where were the hens? This was greeted with much mirth.
This building from Ringwood had once been six classrooms. It was renovated internally to become four classrooms with additional storerooms etc. From 1994 until today (2008) these rooms have been occupied by grade 5 and 6 students.
A view of the 1994 reassembly of the Ringwood School, taken from Powlett Street. The original Broadford Primary School brick building can just be seen on the left.

Many trees are removed and the Mod 5 building is in place - far right prior to the occupation of the 'new' Grade 5 & 6 rooms that were put in place and occupied by August 1994.

This photo was taken from Powlett Street near the tennis / netball courts. The area where staff cars are parked is now where the school buses park. The trees have been removed and replaced. Staff now park on the opposite side of the road. Note the photo was taken before the school buildings were joined by citylink.

This photo shows the children participating in a Skip-a-thon at Broadford Primary School on 3rd September 1987. The Kur Kurrac School can be seen in the background. The toilet block is to the right. To the left can be seen an outdoor area at the back of the art room. In 2008 that area no longer exists and in its place are four classrooms occupied by Grade 3 and 4 students.

This photo of the original brick building and additional porch and verandah was taken in 1987. The occasion was a Skip-a-thon to raise funds for the school. Notice the brick building is free standing and is not connected to another building. The bell tower and flag pole, although in a similar position in 2008, have been moved slightly.

The original brick building is looking very lonely. The internal porch area can be seen painted a cream colour. This was once used as a film and TV area.
In the 1970's the brick building was used as a school library and TV program room.
In the late 1990's it was decided to join the new grade 5 & 6 rooms with a corridor, aptly named "City link." This corridor went the whole length of the school and linked the grade 5 & 6 classrooms, the original brick building, the old wooden infant rooms (now used as the library), the computer room and the new brick office and administration block. Children could no longer move to the front of the school and play in these areas.

This photo was taken inside the yard looking at the back of the older wooden school building. The "newer" classroom was added in 1963 along with a staffroom and storeroom. The older building had three classrooms, and the Principal's office was at the front of the building.
This building is unrecognizable internally. The old Principal's office has been removed, the "new" classroom has been turned into a computer lab, the staffroom, storeroom and three classrooms have had their walls removed and are now the school library.

Kur Kurrac
The building in the centre of this photo is a rural school that was moved to Broadford Primary School in the early 1970's. The original school was from Kur Kurrac near Glenaroua, it was no longer a functional school and was moved to Broadford to make more room for the growing infant department.
When the building was first moved to Broadford it was located in the school grounds where the Principal's office stands in 2008. It was later moved beside the toilets and at the back of the art room when the brick administration building was built
At Broadford Primary School, the old school room was used as an infant classroom and then became a TV room where classes would go to watch programs such as "For The Juniors" and "Behind the News".
As the school grew, the Kur Kurrac school was relocated to the Broadford Historical area in the main street to make way for four new classrooms at the north end of the art room, Rooms 1 - 4.

Taken from Snodgrass St, this view of the administration block shows where the school boundary fence was. At this time Snodgrass St was a two way street with trees in the centre. The fence line was moved back to where the tree is right of centre. The street became a one way street and the school gained extra land. The road is now where the bitumen can be seen in the bottom right corner. The bitumen at the top of the photo was dug up, grass planted and became a play area for the children. Four classrooms would later be built at the bottom of the stairs.

Taken from the stop of the steps outside the art room looking down the Snodgrass St side of the school. This area is now a passageway with two classrooms on either side. Looking down the steps on the left is the adventure playground. The roof on the left is the bike shed. The ground is being cleared for the Multipurpose Room and Canteen to be built. The building on the right is the Kur Kurrac School.

Taken from the top of the steps outside the art room. The Kur Kurrac School has been relocated. The wooden fence to the right was around the outdoor art area. Work is being undertaken to lay the foundations for the Multipurpose room.

Construction of the Multipurpose room is now underway. The main doorway leads into the hall. To the left is the sports storeroom and to the right is the school canteen.
